'A Brief History of the Trumpet from Antiquity to the Present.' Starting with the animal horn, our performers illustrate the use of the trumpet as a signal instrument, its introduction into church music in the Middle Ages, and the formation of the trumpet ensemble and the development of the clarino technique during the baroque period. Methods for increasing the number of playable notes (slides, valves, and holes) are discussed and demonstrated using the Consort's collection of original and reproduction instruments. Students are encouraged to try out the instruments after the lecture; advanced groups may be invited to prepare an ensemble piece with tympani. Suitable for high school and college level audiences. Presented: Goucher Summer Arts Program, 2002, 2001, 2000.
'Brass from the Past.' This interactive program introduces elementary school students to early brass instruments such as the cornetto, the natural trumpet, and the sackbut. Students may participate through percussion or early dance. Suitable for Grades 5 and up. Presented: Howard County Schools, 2005, 2004, 2003.
