Maryland Early Brass
The Artists

Vicki Willman (baroque tympani) is a graduate of the University of Mary, Bismarck ND, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Music and studied percussion with Scott J. Prebys and where she served as Principal Timpanist and Percussion Section Chair of the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra.  Currently, she is Principal Timpanist with the Baltimore Symphonic Band, Co-Principal Percussion Chair with the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, and she has performed with the Hopkins Choral Society, The Handel Choir of Baltimore, and the Society for Early Music of Northern Maryland.

Danielle Robinson (natural/hand horn) is principle horn with the Baltimore Symphonic Band and director of the Protestant Community Church Choir in Essex.  She is also a founding member of the Bay Brass Quintet.

Frank Owens (cornetto, natural trumpet, sackbut, & cavalry trumpet) holds degrees in music education from the Peabody Conservatory and Towson University and has been the director of bands at Centennial Lane Elementary School in Ellicott City since 1989.  Mr Owens carried his love of the natural trumpet into the public school arena by forming the Centennial High School Natural Trumpet Ensemble, which is the only high school natural trumpet ensemble in the U.S.  He is the author of Playing the Baroque Trumpet: a Beginning Method (2000).  Mr Owens has also played with the TU Early Music Ensemble and the Philadelphia Natural Trumpet Ensemble, as well as groups in the Virginia/D.C. area.

Flora Newberry (natural trumpet, cornetto, cavalry trumpet, & 19th century brass) performs with a number of ensembles including Undercroft Brass, the Trenton Symphony, the Delaware Valley Philharmonic, Trenton Early Brass, the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, the Just Friends Ensemble, the Alexandria Royal Fifes, Drums, and Trumpets, and, of course, Newberry's Victorian Cornet Band.

Paul Hopkins (natural/hand horn) earned a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory while studying under Peter Landgren.  Mr Hopkins has won the Principal Horn position in the Cumberland Valley Chamber Players, Associate Principal Horn in the Gettysburg Symphony, Third Horn in the Arlington Symphony, and Fourth Horn in the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.  He also performs with the Baltimore Symphony, Baltimore Opera, Concert Artists of Baltimore, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, the National Philharmonic, Washington Concert Opera, and  the Delaware Symphony, Annapolis Symphony, Lancaster Symphony, and Millbrook Orchestra horn sections.   Formerly a member of Bay Street Brassworks, he has  founded his own professional brass quintet, Brass Express.

Paul De Luca (natural trumpet, cavalry trumpet, & 19th century brass) performs with a variety of historical musical groups, including the Federal City Brass Band and Newberry's Victorian Cornet Band.  On modern trumpet, he performs with Music Americana, the Bay Brass Quintet (formerly Essex Brass Quintet), and is currently principal trumpet with the Bel Air Community Band.  Mr De Luca has previously held positions with the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra, the Homewood Brass, and the Baltimore Symphonic Band.

Christopher D. Campbell (natural trumpet) earned his D.M.A. in trumpet performance from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Va.  Dr Campbell's research is focussed on the music of 17th century Moravian composer, Pavel Vejvanovsky.  Dr Campbell performs with the Lebanon Valley College Alumni Chorale, the Hershey Symphony, and Basicly Brass, and perfoms many other freelance engagements.

Dave Baum (natural trumpet, keyed trumpet, & cavalry trumpet) acquired his interest in performing on historical instruments in 1975 and took up the natural trumpet in 1982.  He has performed with the Philadelphia Classical Symphony, the Orchestra of the 17th Century, A Grimm Harmonie, the Towson University Early Music Ensemble, the University of Delaware Collegium musicum, the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, and was second trumpet with the Philadelphia Natural Trumpet Ensemble.  He is co-director of the Maryland Early Brass Festival.
